広島県尾道市で、鬼が棒で人をたたいて健康を祈る「ベッチャー祭」がありました。
このお祭りは今から200年ぐらい前、病気が広がったときに始まりました。
鬼に棒で頭をたたかれると、1年間、元気に過ごすことができると言われています。
お祭りでは、3匹の鬼がまちの中を歩きました。
鬼の怖い姿に驚いて、泣いたり逃げたりする子どももいました。
4歳の女の子は「鬼が怖かった。来年は会いたくない」と泣きながら話していました。
父親は「子どもが元気に過ごしてほしくて、鬼にたたいてもらいました」と話していました。

In Onomichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture, the 'Bettchar Festival' was held, where demons strike people with sticks to pray for their health. This festival began about 200 years ago when a disease spread. It is said that if a demon strikes your head with a stick, you can spend the year in good health. During the festival, three demons walked through the town. Some children were surprised by the frightening appearance of the demons and cried or ran away. A four-year-old girl said while crying, 'The demon was scary. I don't want to see it next year.' Her father said, 'I had the demon strike her because I want my child to be healthy.'
