Here is news about persimmons, a fruit commonly eaten in autumn in Japan. There is a famous haiku created in Nara that goes, 'When you eat a persimmon, the bell tolls at Horyuji Temple.' A haiku is composed of 17 syllables in a 5-7-5 pattern. Nara is known for its delicious persimmons. The people who grow persimmons have designated October 26, the day the haiku was created, as 'Persimmon Day.' In Nara City, people from JA distributed persimmons grown locally for free. The 800 persimmons were quickly gone. An approximately 80-year-old woman who received a persimmon said, 'I felt that autumn has come to Nara as well.'
