小野二郎おのじろうさんは1925ねんまれました。7歳ななさいときいえはたらはじめました。10歳で寿司すし職人しょくにん弟子でしになりました。とてもきびしい修行しゅぎょうでした。でも、二郎じろうさんはあきらめませんでした。

Jiro Ono was born in 1925. When he was seven years old, he left home and began to work. At ten, he became an apprentice sushi chef. It was very strict training. But Jiro did not give up.

Every day, he worked from morning until night. His master was very strict. He continued practicing for many years. He was always studying only about sushi. Jiro devoted everything to becoming a sushi chef.

1965ねん二郎じろうさんは40さいとき東京とうきょう自分じぶんのおみせひらきました。「すきやばし次郎じろう」という名前なまえでした。おみせはとてもちいさかったです。せきは10しかありませんでした。地下鉄ちかてつえきちかくにありました。

In 1965, when Jiro was 40 years old, he opened his own shop in Tokyo. Its name was “Sukiyabashi Jiro.” The shop was very small. There were only ten seats. It was near a subway station.

He continued working for decades. Jiro hardly took any days off. Even when he became 80 or 90 years old, he is still working every day. He says, “There are still many things to learn.” He keeps making efforts in order to make perfect sushi.

やっと、世界中せかいじゅう有名ゆうめいになりました。2007ねん、ミシュランのぼしをもらいました。寿司屋すしやとして世界せかいはじめてでした。「寿司すし神様かみさま」とばれるようになりました。映画えいがつくられました。

At last, he became famous all over the world. In 2007, he received three Michelin stars. It was the first time in the world for a sushi restaurant. He came to be called “the god of sushi.” A movie was also made.

Even when Jiro becomes 99 years old, he is still making sushi. He is working together with his apprentices. He says, “I want to die while making sushi.” He intends to live his whole life as an artisan.
